Subdivision Regulations and Information:

This department works in conjunction with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality to review proposed subdivisions for compliance with the Sanitation in Subdivisions Act and related administrative rules. Aspects that are reviewed during the review process include quantity, quality; and dependability of drinking water; type and location of septic systems; storm drainage; and well and septic layouts. We also review the parcels for compliance with the non-degradation requirements. The Sanitation in Subdivision Act applies to parcels that are less than 20 acres.

Parcels, 160 acres to 20 acres, are reviewed on a local level for water, sewer and solid waste. All land divisions less than 160 acres are reviewed, unless exempt by law, by both the County Planner and the Sanitarian. The County Planner and I work together to assist people in the division of their property. We encourage people to make an appointment to visit with us about the division of their property at the beginning of the project.
